Early in her career, she worked as an illustrator for brands like Boucheron, Dior, and L’Oréal, before moving to New York City in the 1960s. There, her work expanded to include illustrations for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. In the 1970s, she founded The Winter Tree Graphics, where she began creating her signature hand-colored naif etchings. Cuca Romley's art is deeply influenced by the places she has lived and loved, from New York City’s vibrant streets to the Hampton's peaceful landscapes, and the cultural richness of Barcelona, where she currently resides. Romley’s work captures the heart of small town America, such as Sag Harbor’s Main Street, East Hampton's, Maidstone Club, as well as the iconic landmarks of the Flatiron Building, Barcelona’s Paseo de Gracia and Rambla Catalunya with remarkable precision and affection. Her mastery of detail and color brings to life both the famous and lesser-known, blending her timeless charm with a contemporary perspective. Cuca Romley continues to paint, finding inspiration in the bustling and serene streets of her adopted city.
