SHMUEL GOLDSTEIN Pinsk, Poland, b. 1921, d. 2006 Born in 1921 in Pinsk, Poland, Shmuel Goldstein immigrated to Israel in … Read more SHMUEL GOLDSTEIN Pinsk, Poland, b. 1921, d. 2006 Born in 1921 in Pinsk, Poland, Shmuel Goldstein immigrated to Israel in 1935. Although painting from early childhood, only at the age of forty did Goldstein formally begin to paint as a trained artist, first studying in the studio of Zvi Shor in Petah Tikva, and then at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv. Goldstein's paintings were exhibited in a number of group shows, including an exhibition shared with his brother Jacob Goldstein at the Museum of Petach Tikva. Later a number of solo exhibitioins of his paintings were held both in Israel and the United States. Stylistically Goldstein belongs to the Impressionist school, painting landscapes, still-lifes, figures and portraits. A central motif in his paintings is the formation of the Jewish town, he remembered from his childhood. Childhood landscapes immortalized in works such as Pinsk My City;, shown in Petah Tikva, in the seventies, are considered the highlight of his work. Goldstein died in 2006. See less
