Up for sale is this gorgeous Ukhamba lidded beer basket from South Africa, measuring 34" x 20" x 20", a one of a kind item. It is in excellent, gently-used condition, as pictured.
Ukhamba are rigid, bulb-shaped containers, hand-woven from Ilala palm and watertight, for the storage of beer or other liquids. The Zulu women who weave these baskets are considered among the best in the world in this craft. It can take up to one month to produce a medium-sized basket, let alone one this large, each unique in size, shape, pattern, weave, and color and featuring designs taken from traditional Zulu beadwork.
