The Cachepot … Read more This is an authentic mid-19th-century French Toleware Cachepot, dating to approximately 1840-1870, executed in the Empire/Neoclassical revival style. The Cachepot is constructed of lacquered tole( painted sheet iron)and embellished with applied gilt metal mounts, decorative borders, and a pierced gallery rim. The body is further enriched with original paper lithograph panels depicting classical figurines, urns, and pastoral motifs-typical of high-quality French decorative objects of the period. Originally intended to hold a liner or potted plants. This piece was designed for display on a mantel, console or side table. The form, materials, and decoration are consistent with Secon Empire decorative arts, and this example hast not been converted or altered.
