Hand-knotted in wool, these 4x6 Modern Classics rugs as a pair by by Rug & Kilim are inspired by antique Chinese Art Deco rugs and similar Chinoiserie designs of the 1920s.
On the Design:
Gold open fields underscores a play of ice and navy blue with cream white hues, prevalent in both the medallion and the many floral patterns in the field spandrels and three intricate borders alike. Admirers of the craft will note a particular emphasis on lotus and cloudband motifs in these rugs’ design—long-time celebrated symbols of Ningxia, Peking, and several other period pieces like those that inspired these pieces. Altogether they are pieces as deeply personal in their subtext as it is in the details and beauties that distinguish them in our craft—an homage to a rich history of craft and culture.
