The Frenchman François Courtener arrived in Moscow in the 1770s and ran a bookstore and a small printing press until his death in 1814. The map depicts the city shortly before the disastrous fire of 1805 and the subsequent reconstruction, which obliterated many features of the past. The map was reproduced by other publishers, such as Goetz and Dietrich (Munich, 1812) – with all the omissions and errors of the original. Framed. Dimensions: 103 x 97 cm See less
