This intriguing runner is a transition between the clearly Serab and the obvious Hamadan. The warp is wool and the woolen weft is single or double. The outer camel border is plain as on Hamadans and the reciprocal guard borders are the single "Y" shapes associated with Hamadans. The field pattern is a small abstract floral repeat with diminutive ivory medallions. The decorative effect, however,is authentic with no trace of the hand of an outside designer. The ivory main border with abstract flowers with striped polychrome leaves is unusual. The exact attribution of this antique runner is less important than its value as a work of traditional folk art.
This runner is in very good condition with slight overall wear commensurate to the age.The informal character of the rug makes it a perfect accompaniment to any rustic design scheme.
