A very imposing and superb bust of a woman in solid dark wood, carved from a single block with a gouge, dating from the 19th century (circa 1860-1920), a unique piece of European folk art. The face is not particularly smiley, but it is pretty. The back of the head is cut at an angle, probably because it was placed in a niche, or perhaps as a writing desk, part of a piece of furniture.
44-45 cm maximum height, 23-24 cm width and depth. Very well preserved for its age, with some cracks in the wood and old losses, a few scars on the face, particularly on the nose, and a few small insect holes. Overall, a harmonious piece that testifies to its history and has a beautiful patina. Approximately 9.2 kg.
