Exceptional original watercolor by François-Fortuné-Antoine Férogio (1805–1888), a prominent French watercolorist and illustrator of Italian origin, trained by Baron Antoine Jean Gros, the latter famous for being the visual chronicler of Napoleon Bonaparte's exploits. Férogio and his work are catalogued in the Department of Graphic Arts at the Louvre Museum. This piece belongs to his exclusive series of Moral Allegories, where the artist uses fauna and classical symbolism to create a social and political critique of the 19th century. "Le Droit des Forts" (The Right of the Strong) is a visual interpretation of La Fontaine's maxims on power and hierarchy, specifically from his fable The Wolf and the Lamb. The watercolor is in perfect condition. The antique gilded wooden frame is also perfect. See less
