Materials: alabaster and resin. Aqua fossil table light is a sculptural light carved in alabaster, conceived as a luminous body that twists around itself. The piece is illuminated entirely from within, allowing light to inhabit the interior volume and emerge through the stone, transforming mass into glow. The work proposes a contemporary approach to alabaster: sculpting from the inside out. Fragments of stone are reconstructed and reassembled, giving rise to an organic form in constant tension, where solid and liquid seem to coexist. What was once a heavy, opaque material becomes fluid, translucent, and alive. Part of amarist's aqua fossil series, this piece reflects an ongoing investigation into the geological memory of alabaster and its aqueous origin. The light reveals the stone as a fossilized trace of water, a material shaped by evaporation, pressure, and time. By reimagining alabaster as a moldable, almost plastic element, aqua fossil table light breaks with traditional carving techniques and presents the stone as a luminous relic4an object that appears to have emerged from an ancient sea, carrying within it both geological history and contemporary expression. Based in the pyrenees, amarist studio works from a context closely connected to stone, territory, and slow natural dynamics. This environment informs the studio’s sensitivity toward equilibrium, transformation, and the passage of time. Amarist’s works—including sculptures, mirrors, lighting pieces, and tables—are conceived as functional objects with a strong sculptural presence. Beyond their formal qualities, they propose a reflection on environmental transformation and on the fragile balance between matter, memory, and time.
