A splendid large-format porcelain sculpture (almost 40 cm tall), an example of the manufacturing excellence of limoges (france). This bust of a child features refined artistic execution, combining two different porcelain finishes for a truly exquisite aesthetic.
subject and style: the work depicts the bust of a child in the style of the famous "enfants" by brongniart or houdon, with a sweet, dreamy expression. The sculptural part (face and torso) is crafted from biscuit (unglazed porcelain), a refined technique that gives the surface a matte, soft, and velvety finish, similar to parian marble, enhancing the delicate complexion and the details of the wavy hair.
material and finish: the chromatic contrast is the highlight of this work: the pure white of the biscuit porcelain blends with the pedestal base made of porcelain glazed in the highly sought-after "veritable bleu de four" (true oven blue/cobalt), a deep and intense color achieved at high temperatures. The base is further embellished with fine pure gold trim that highlights the moldings. Inside the base is the gold hallmark: "g.l. Limoges france - veritable bleu de four - made in france" and the engraved signature c. Tharaud.
