The piece originates from a former clothing store in Vichy, France, and is constructed entirely from solid pine wood.

The shelving was manufactured by Chalmette, a French furniture maker based in Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme), known in the early 20th century for producing robust and functional furniture, particularly shop fittings and storage furniture for professional use. Chalmette’s work is characterized by solid construction, practical proportions, and minimal decorative elements.

This example features a tall, architectural structure with fixed shelves, a central vertical support, a molded cornice at the top, and a plinth base. The relatively shallow depth is typical of shop shelving from this period, allowing for efficient presentation while maintaining a limited footprint. The wide compartments reflect its original function for folded garments and retail display.

The surfaces show visible wear, marks, and patina consistent with age and prolonged commercial use, contributing to the authentic character of the piece.
