A fine example of French Neoclassical decorative art, this gilt wood wall mirror dates from the Directoire to early 19th-century Louis XVI revival period.

The well-carved warm gilt wood frame features elegant proportions and a delicately beaded inner border.

It is crowned with a carved decorative crest with classical motifs of flowers, acanthus leaves, swags and a musical instrument.

Principally designed as a wall-mounted mirror, these pieces were often given as wedding gifts.

Overall it is in good condition with a deep aged hue to the original patina. There are some historic gilding repairs and the mirror plate is a later replacement to give a clear reflection.

Ideal for placing above a console or fireplace, or positioned in an entrance hall or living area. See less
