This delightful mid-century modern wine bottle holder features a stylized cat in solid brass — a whimsical and collectible piece … Read more This delightful mid-century modern wine bottle holder features a stylized cat in solid brass — a whimsical and collectible piece attributed to Walter Bosse, the celebrated Viennese artist and designer whose playful “Black Golden” brass works helped define Austrian decorative art in the 1950s and ’60s.

Born in Vienna in 1904, Bosse trained at the prestigious Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule and went on to a prolific career as a ceramist, metalworker, and designer of ceramics and brass objects, ultimately gaining international acclaim for his humorous, organic figurines produced in collaboration with the Herta Baller workshop.

Once cast and refined, Bosse’s pieces underwent a deliberate patination process and then select areas of the surface were artfully polished, removing portions of the darkened finish to reveal the warm, lustrous brass beneath.
