His work is highly regarded for its "useful art" philosophy, blending raw industrial materials with organic, handcrafted textures. It is constructed from sand-cast aluminum and inlaid brass. Marshall is famous for this "lunar" aesthetic, contrasting the cool, matte gray of the aluminum with the warm, golden tones of the brass. The design is Brutalist, characterized by heavy, blocky forms and an emphasis on the "honesty" of the materials. The central brass inlay features a geometric, jagged "maze" or cross-like pattern that is a signature motif in his 1970s and 80s collections.
