The composition features a gentleman seated beside a table covered with a tablecloth, while a female figure dressed in period attire offers him a tray.

The setting is enhanced by a checkered floor, restrained furnishings, and a leaded glass door, elements that create a quiet and intimate atmosphere,

characteristic of 19th-century painting.

This antique artwork is signed lower right by Frans Moormans, a 19th-century Dutch painter renowned for interior scenes and portraits.

Frans Moormans (1832–1893), born in Rotterdam, studied at the Antwerp Academy and later became a professor at the Amsterdam Academy.

He regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, the most prestigious official exhibition in France at the time, and was awarded

a medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle. His works are held in museums in Montreal and Rouen.

Moormans demonstrates remarkable technical mastery in rendering textiles, wooden surfaces, and in the subtle management of

natural light, gently filtering through the rear opening.

The painting is housed in an original period gilded frame, finely crafted, enhancing its historical and decorative value.

Both the oil painting and the frame have been professionally and carefully restored.
