Christmas Dinner at YOSEMITE AHWAHNEE BRACEBRIDGE HALL and Ansel Adams Legacy
Ansel Adams was instrumental in shaping the Bracebridge Dinner at Yosemite’s Ahwahnee Hotel, acting as its director, producer, and the角色 (Major Domo) for 40 years since 1929. Based on Washington Irving's stories, Adams transformed the annual Christmas pageant (begun in 1927) into a cherished 18th-century English tradition, even contributing to the script, music, and overall artistic direction of the holiday, multi-course feast.
Since 1929, Adams directed the show for four decades, also performing as the Lord of Misrule and later, the Major Domo.
Adams aimed to align the dinner's aesthetic with the "natural grandeur" of Yosemite, creating a deeply atmospheric experience.
This tradition continues to be associated with the Adams family Legacy with his grandson, Matthew Adams, also participating. While the show became more comedic over time, Adams' influence remains, including in the production's high standards and attention to detail.
