Blending art nouveau organicism with the emerging simplicity of art deco, this rare table lamp is crafted from an antique vase by the arnhemsche fayencefabriek, circa early 1920s. The lamp is topped with a custom-made drum shade in cream silk with trim from maison houlès paris. Newly wired and ready to use with us plug or for the country of your choice. Height includes lampshade.
the vase base features a graceful elongated club form—a slender trumpet shape tapering to a rounded bulbous foot—rendered in two tones. The neck and base are finished in a rich matte sage green glaze, while the central panel opens onto a cream ground adorned with the hand-painted flora decoration. Stylized botanical motifs unfold across the surface: vivid cobalt blue roses, flowing teal and sage leaves, golden yellow blooms, and delicate brown stems wind organically through dotted amber ground patterns.
the flora decor was created by w.p. Hartgring, who joined the arnhemsche fayencefabriek in 1917 and was responsible for designing a significant number of the factory's most celebrated patterns. Hartgring's designs for the factory are dated to circa 1917–1920 placing this piece firmly within the factory's golden period. The factory experienced its heyday in the early 1920s, expanding multiple times to meet demand for its hand-painted pottery.
the base is marked on the underside with the factory's rooster logo and "arnhem holland," with "flora" written alongside and the model number 222 with a blue hand-painted "vii." these markings confirm both the maker and the specific decor pattern, making this piece fully traceable and desirable to collectors of dutch art nouveau pottery.
perfect for collectors of dutch art nouveau pottery, admirers of early 20th-century studio ceramics, or anyone seeking a rare and characterful table lamp with documented provenance. The warm, organic palette and expressive brushwork make this lamp equally suited to eclectic, bohemian, or transitional interiors.
about arnhemsche fayencefabriek
the arnhemsche fayencefabriek (arnhem, netherlands), active in the early 1900s, was renowned for its innovation in form and glaze. The factory’s artists produced works that mirrored the evolution from flowing jugendstil influences to more structured art deco geometry, resulting in highly collectible ceramics prized for their color, craftsmanship, and balance of nature and abstraction.
