A beautiful daybed from the “Pirkka” series, designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara and manufactured by Laukaan Puu in Finland around 1950. It is made of high quality dark stained pine wood in a beautiful warm redbrown colour. The thick base has two sturdy rectangular legs, holding the three long slats that create the top. The strong, rustic materials combine really nicely with the he minimalist design of this piece and creates a unique modern style that is typical for the work of Tapiovaara. The mattress and pillow have new white fabric upholstery with a nice soft finish, really nicely matching the materials and style of the piece and making this an outstanding addition to the interior that excels both in style and comfort! It remains in very good, vintage condition with new upholstery and only minor wear to the frame consistent with age and use, preserving a wonderful patina.
