An exceptional 19th-century William IV rosewood tilt-top center table featuring some of the most dramatic "butterfly" book-matched veneers we have ever countered. The circular top showcases a rant, swirling grain that radiates from the center. The deep chocolate and honey-hued striations of the rosewood create a nearly symmetrical, kaleidoscopic effect that serves as a natural work of art.
The top rests upon a substantial, faceted hexagonal pedestal that transitions seamlessly into a triform plinth base. This sturdy foundation is elevated by its original, elegantly carved "melon" or gadrooned feet.
The tilt-top mechanism remains full functional, allowing the table to be stored vertically against a wall when not in use--a classic space-saving feature of the period that allows the spectacular grain of the tabletop to be displayed a focal piece.
