"Edge of the Woods," a 1969 oil landscape by artist R. Gwynn, likely from California, signed lower right and further titled, signed, and dated on the verso ("Edge of the Woods / R. Gwynn 69"). The composition depicts a sun-dappled woodland clearing: a stand of slender young trees recedes toward a grove of gnarled, wind-shaped oaks in the foreground, their twisting trunks catching warm late-day light against rolling golden hillsides. Loose, confident brushwork and a rich palette of ochre, gold, sage, and umber give the piece an impressionistic, plein-air quality reminiscent of the oak-studded hills of the American West.
