Exceptional original portrait painting by listed American artist Henry Mosler (1841-1920), depicting a dignified gentleman in a vibrant striped headwrap and traditional robes. This intimate character study showcases Mosler’s masterful technique and his empathetic approach to portraiture.
Executed in gouache on paper with visible brushwork and subtle tonal variations that demonstrate the artist’s academic training and impressionistic sensibilities. Artist Biography: Henry Mosler (American, 1841-1920) studied at the Düsseldorf Academy and in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and National Academy of Design. His works are held in major museum collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Mosler is particularly noted for his Civil War era paintings and sympathetic depictions of freed slaves and working people.
Condition: Very good original condition with age-appropriate minor toning. No tears, losses, or damage to painting. Frame shows authentic vintage wear. Professionally framed under glass.
