This vintage Persian Ardabil room-size/gallery rug features the region’s signature geometric vocabulary, celebrated for its clarity, symbolism, and restrained elegance. Handwoven in the mid-20th century, the rug originates from the historic city of Ardabil, located in northeastern Iran within the Azerbaijan province, just south of the Caucasus Mountains and west of the Caspian Sea—an area long renowned for its distinctive tribal weaving traditions.
The ivory-toned field is animated by a charming array of tribal geometric forms and stylized animal and bird motifs dispersed throughout the composition, offering both narrative interest and visual rhythm. A central brick-colored medallion anchors the design, providing a warm focal point that contrasts beautifully with the lighter ground. The composition is framed by classic Ardabil geometric borders rendered in pale blue, brown, and brick tones, reinforcing balance and cohesion.
