This pair of paintings, forming a pendant, was created by the French painter André Chevalard, an artist renowned for his still lifes and hunting scenes in the figurative tradition of the 20th century.
These two oil paintings on canvas present refined compositions combining game, fruit, and hunting accessories, executed with great finesse. The handling of materials, the precision of the drawing, and the subtlety of the nuances testify to a solid pictorial mastery, inherited from the interwar period and continued in the postwar decades.
The works are signed “Chevalard” and preserved in their richly carved and gilded antique frames, providing a strong and elegant decorative presence. The ensemble exudes a classic and timeless atmosphere, perfectly suited to a refined interior, a library, or a period home.
About the artist: Born in Saint-Étienne in 1908 and died in Saint-Chamond in 1987, André Chevalard was a versatile artist: painter, sculptor, and medalist. Active from the 1930s, some of his works were acquired by French public collections as early as 1931. In painting, he primarily distinguished himself in the genres of still life and hunting scenes, in a realistic and meticulous style. At the same time, he created several limited-edition bronze medals, further enhancing collectors' interest in his work today.
