A large American Gilded Age Pier Glass Mirror, circa 1900. Overall size: 61" wide x 75" high ( 77" H to top of central cartouche) x 8" deep at top (3.75" deep at sides). The glass itself measures
45.5" wide x 60"H. This piece represents a wonderful expression of cabinetry work with inlaid mahogany and walnut; with intricate floral and geometric embellishments, gilded rope-turned moldings, and gilded egg-and-dart molding bisected by an elaborate gold shield shaped cartouche with stylised fleur de lis at the very top of the mirror.
In original condition, with no pieces missing or damage and no repairs or refinishing of any kind. This mirror is in very good overall condition but in places shows its age with areas where gold leaf has flaked off. In the hands of a sensitive restorer, however, this grand old mirror could be easily brightened up and returned to its' original glory. As a side note: this mirror was removed from it's original house and has been in our showroom for nearly 60 years.

This mirror is in great condition and is structurally sound. Given it's age, however, one is not surprised to see here and there where gold leaf has dried and flaked off, where there may be some discoloration and where the wood would benefit from some linseed oil. Some may want to restore this and bring it back to it's full glory; others will appreciate its graceful old age. Again, to note: this mirror was removed from it's original house and has been in our showroom for over nearly 60 years. It hasn't been "kicked around" and so, is really in terrific shape. less
