Modeling-clay relief on a repurposed ping-pong racket where a luminous chroma spot animates a restrained, tactile surface. Scintilla is a concise mixed-media relief that foregrounds the search for a single luminous moment within a restrained chromatic field. The racket face is treated with modeling clay and a fine granular paste to produce a gently modulated ground; a hand-applied sequence of acrylic glazes moves the palette from soft neutrals into a sudden, bright accent — the “scintilla” — that the eye seeks across the surface. In keeping with the artist’s practice, the found-object support remains legible: the wooden handle traces the object’s prior life while the altered face becomes a stage for sculptural intervention. The relief is constructed through additive and subtractive techniques: modeling clay provides three-dimensional folds and shallow hollows, while scraping and scoring reveal underlayers and create a weathered tactility. A small, hand-painted miniature figure is positioned to interact with the bright tint, offering narrative tension and an index of scale. The work’s finishing — layered glazes, selective satin varnish and delicate highlights — amplifies the contrast between matte ground and luminous point. For discoverability, repeated keywords: ping-pong racket, modeling clay, mixed-media relief, found-object sculpture. Scintilla’s conceptual register intersects formal restraint with emotional acuity: a single bright tint functions as a psychological cue, a momentary revelation within an otherwise uniform field. The use of a sporting implement as substrate furthers the artist’s interest in recontextualizing quotidian objects, converting the functional into the poetic. Scintilla is supplied ready to hang and is best sited where viewers can approach closely to appreciate surface modulation and minute figurative details.
