Authentic engraving of the city map of Turin, produced in Milan by the Artaria printing house in 1834, with an antique dealer's certificate.
Turin, the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861, is shown here in its previous appearance: that of the capital of the small and bellicose Kingdom of Sardinia, ruled by the Savoy dynasty. The fortress, with the characteristic hexagonal shape of the great European fortifications of the 17th century, stands out at the center of the map. The fortress resisted the siege of the French army in 1706 thanks to the heroism of its defenders and for centuries represented the pride of this charming city at the foot of the Alps, surrounded by the famous Barolo vineyards.
