This is a Hopi kachina depicted in large scale. During this time frame, the Navajo elders would not allow a Navajo God, Yei or deity to be drawn or woven in any form of art. It was strictly forbidden. So this enterprising woman used a Hopi deity and then there was no problem. Several large pieces have been found in the passing years, but not very many. This rug is 56" x 87" and is dramatic in every way. There is only one flaw (see picture) where the rug has been very slightly damaged, otherwise in great condition. It is made from the wool of sheep, which was most likely gathered by the weaver and it also has used natural dyes. It has been professionally cleaned by specialized Navajo rug cleaners. See less
