Monmouth IL Pottery Stoneware Crock Bean Pot + Lid Maple Leaf Logo Brown Tan Vtg 50s
Perfect for collectors of Monmouth Illinois pottery and western stoneware. This vintage 1950s brown and tan baked bean bowl/western stoneware crock with lid, is from the famous Monmouth, Ill. pottery and stoneware factory. It has the famous maple leaf logo on the bottom of the bowl. The beige and brown server/bean pot with lid is reminiscent of farmhouse, rustic cabin or chic retroware style. Made in the USA. These retro/vintage pottery pieces sell for $125.00 and higher without a lid, depending on condition, at resale shops, on consignment, online, etc. Because there is a hairline fracture in the lid that has been mended, I am highly discounting the price. Stored in a cool dry place. Comes from a smoke-free/pet-free home.
Without the lid, nor the handles, the pot measures 7-1/2" wide dia. X 4" high.
Handles included, with lid on, the pot measures 9" at widest point X 6-1/4" high.
About Monmouth Pottery/Western Stoneware Co., Early Years:
The Monmouth Pottery company was founded in 1892 in Monmouth,Illinois. Until 1906 when it was purchased by Western Stoneware Co. (they also acquired 6 other small pottery companies at around this time), Monmouth was noted for its utilitarian ware. Monmouth became the ‘Artware Division’ of Western Stoneware Co. This division was discontinued during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Its mark, the maple leaf, was used until 1930. If the words ‘Monmouth Co.’ appear as part of the mark, the piece was made before 1906. After that year, the embossed mark became ‘Monmouth Western Stoneware’, however a paper label may, on occasion, appear bearing the words ‘Monmouth Pottery, Monmouth, Ill.’ Many pieces produced in the late 1930s are unmarked, but are identifiable due to the glazes and the clay used in production.
