more
Handmade work in solid glass by the glass Master Pino Signoretto depicting the head of a horse in light blue color. The piece is made by using the "scavo" (excavation) technique.
A part deliberately lacks blue sand, just to emphasize the work is made of glass.
Thanks to the way the base was cut and polished the sculpture can stand in two different positions.
Signed under the base. Made around 2003/2006 circa.
The "scavo" technique is used to give the object an antique look as if it was weathered or
buried for a long period of time. During the working process, the transparent or coloured glass takes on an ancient look typical of the “vetro scavo”. This is obtained thanks to the use of salts and oxides which, spread over the surface of the piece, react at the high temperatures at which the object is processed, thus making it look like an archaeological findings. After the necessary tempering phase (about 24 hrs), the object undergo the finishing grinding phase.
Pino Signoretto is one of the most renown Murano glass Master who used the traditional Murano glassblowing techniques to make his pieces. He has been internationally recognized for his work in the mid-1980s with exhibitions worldwide.
After his death in 2017, some of his pieces are now in museums throughout the world. He has been working for numerous contemporary artists such as Dale Chihuly, Kiki Smith, Jeff Koons and Lino Tagliapietra. Chihuly himself about him said to be the "greatest glass sculptor of our time" so this wonderful piece by Pino Signoretto is definitely an opportunity to own a piece of Murano glass history.
