This is a beautiful antique Baluch (Baluchi) tribal rug, hand-knotted in wool, originating from the Baluchistan region (likely Northeast Persia or adjacent areas) and dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900).
The rug displays a classic all-over tribal composition with repeating geometric medallions, including large octagonal or diamond-shaped guls (tribal motifs often associated with specific clans), framed by intricate latch-hook elements, stylized trees or shrub-like forms, and smaller geometric fillers in rich earthy tones. The dominant palette features deep madder red and burgundy fields, accented with midnight blue, soft camel/ivory, teal-blue details, golden yellows, and touches of green. The main border is wide and elaborate, with repeating geometric patterns, meandering vines, and protective serrated or zigzag motifs in contrasting dark outlines that give the design its bold, graphic character typical of nomadic Baluch weaving.
