By Eugene Marioton, 'Young Hercules', bronze
The figure is depicted standing, wrapped in a lion's skin, with his left arm raised and his right hand on his hip, resting on a circular base signed E. Marioton and inscribed 'Jeunesse D'Hercule'.
Born in Paris on April 7, 1857, Eugène Marioton was a prolific sculptor and medallist. He was the brother of Claudius Marioton and the painter Jean Alfred Marioton.
Marioton enjoyed a great reputation for nearly fifty years.
He produced numerous allegorical subjects, antique and genre scenes, and portraits, which he exhibited at the Salon from 1882 onwards. His works include numerous bronzes: busts, medallions, statues, and groups.
His works followed the traditions of Neoclassicism.
He was a regular member of the Société des Artistes Français and served on the jury for the sculpture section of the Salon in 1905.
Before his death in 1933, Marioton received several awards for his work, including a prize from the Société des Beaux-Arts and a scholarship for young artists from the Conseil Général de la Seine in 1884. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
