About the artist: Don Vaughan (British, b. 1916, d. c. 2005) is recorded as a UK painter known for highly marketable landscape and seasonal scenes. He grew up in London and attended a Chiswick school, later winning a scholarship to Chiswick Polytechnic School of Art, where he received formal training that prepared him for a professional career in design and fine art.
After graduating, Vaughan worked as a junior designer for one of London’s leading furniture companies before moving into a commercial art studio in London. Following several years in commercial art, he gradually shifted his focus toward freelance painting, dedicating his personal time to developing his own artistic voice.
Working in watercolors, gouache, and oils, Don Vaughan became particularly known for his oil landscapes, often depicting the English countryside through the changing seasons. His works frequently explore rural life, winter paths, farm labor, and quiet village scenes, emphasizing atmosphere, light, and mood. Nostalgic in tone, his paintings evoke a simpler, slower-paced past and a sense of tranquility.
Vaughan’s work was exhibited in galleries in London’s West End, and many of his paintings were produced for the decorative and gallery market. Today, Don Vaughan’s landscape paintings are appreciated for their traditional craftsmanship, seasonal sensitivity, and enduring appeal to collectors of classic British landscape art.
