A striking and monumental piece of mid-century maritime folk art. This original oil painting depicts a majestic clipper ship battling high seas, rendered with dramatic texture and movement. The work is uniquely executed on a 33-inch live-edge wood slab, preserving the natural bark and rugged contours of the timber. It is 9.5 inches at it's widest point.
The piece features dual signatures ("Nancy Lee"), one in a stylized print and one in cursive, appearing within the foam of the waves and the lower foreground. I am unable to authenticate the signatures.
The combination of the nautical subject matter and the organic, rustic medium makes this a standout "cabin-core" or coastal statement piece. Perfect for a lake house, library, or as a focal point in a rustic-modern interior.

Some of the paint is chipped off along the edges. There are natural cracks throughout the wood. The Medium: The reverse shows the beautiful, natural grain and a central knot, confirming it is a solid wood slice rather than a composite. • The Signatures: The piece contains two distinct signatures: a printed "NANCY LEE" integrated into the white impasto of a wave, and a cursive "Nancy Lee" signature lower down. • Surface Details: The painting utilizes a heavy brush technique to create 3D "peaks" in the water, adding physical depth to the image. less
