The piece is part of the Orientalist and Militaria movement, very popular during the Belle Époque.

Subject and Style: The central figure is a full-relief sculpture depicting a soldier, identifiable by his uniform (a fez on his head, a short jacket with braid, and wide trousers) as a Zouave (French colonial infantry). The soldier is captured in a dynamic pose while blowing his horn. On either side of the figure are two hollow containers shaped like medieval breastplates or armor, which serve as pen holders or storage spaces.

Materials and Finish: The work is crafted from antimony (a metal alloy) with a striking double finish: the soldier's body is burnished (a dark bronze color), while details such as the fez, telescope, buttons, and side armor are gilded, creating a beautiful color contrast. The entire piece rests on a solid rectangular base in antique black marble, which lends stability and value to the overall piece.
