A rare and profoundly atmospheric antique Orthodox icon depicting the **Virgin Eleusa** (Umilenie or Virgin of Tenderness), one of the most emotionally resonant and spiritually significant types in Russian iconography. The Virgin Mary inclines her head in quiet sorrow toward the Christ Child, who nestles closely against her cheek—an intimate gesture evoking boundless maternal love, divine compassion, and the anticipation of Christ's Passion.
