It was shipped to South Africa in the early 1900’s and then made its way to the United States in the 60’s. The base of the piece is the original buffet, with graceful curved corners and detailed walnut wood work. The matching plate rack was handcrafted by an unknown cabinetmaker to add a display top and cover the surface damage found on the rear top area on the left back of the buffet.(see last photo) The richly aged patina enhances the character of the wood, while the gracefully scalloped plate rack provides a distinguished backdrop for fine china or decorative displays. The buffet features keyed cabinet doors on each side, offering generous storage space for dining essentials. Above, three drawers provide convenient organization for linens and flatware, framed by finely molded edges and subtle carved accents. The top curved side drawers are not designed to echo the base of the buffet and are not operational. The entire piece is in two independent sections and is easily moved. One may choose to use only the base to keep its original design. This is a large, statement piece that will endure the test of time. See less

The finish is original and therefore there are scratches and scuffs on the top surface of the lower cabinet. There is one area on the left rear of the top section that is greatly damaged but is covered by the upper section of the piece. The keyed doors are operational and there is one key with the piece. There is some cracking from age on the burl wood that can be seen in the photographs. There are no structural issues with this piece. less
