Exceptional French Art Deco wall sconce (applique) designed by André Petitot, circa 1930s. This striking architectural sconce features a bold geometric molded frosted glass shade in the iconic skyscraper or zig-zag Deco style, strongly reflecting the Machine Age aesthetic of the period. The glass is clearly signed “PETITOT,” confirming its attribution to one of the most important French Art Deco glass designers.
The sculptural glass form rises in stepped vertical planes with sharply defined angles, creating dramatic light diffusion when illuminated. It mounts to an original period cast metal wall plate with complementary stepped detailing and side wings, reinforcing the strong Art Deco silhouette. The flat-backed base and rear mounting holes confirm its original design as a wall sconce.
