This is Really is an Exceptionally Nice and Quite Unusual Unique Antique Wood Fragment that Would Have Been Removed from … Read more This is Really is an Exceptionally Nice and Quite Unusual Unique Antique Wood Fragment that Would Have Been Removed from a Italian - Sicilian Donkey Cart. Subject Madder Depicts a Religious Madonna & Child Scene with 2 Kneeling Figures at Her Side Etc.. The Carved Wood Fragment itself Dates to the Very Early 19th Century. NOTE That the Base has been Modified ( Repurposed ) - Has a Very Heavy Solid Metal Block Attached so the It Could be Used as a Doorstop ( Weighs 9 Pounds ! ). It was Very Well Done - Has been Hand Painted to Match the Other Existing Original Painted Features. Also NOTE That the Doorstop Feature would Have Been Added During the Time that it Would Have Been Sold in Italy as a "Grand Tour" Souvenir - Most Likely in the Very Late 19th Century or Possibly Very Early 1900s. It is Completely Hand Carved out of One Solid Piece of Hardwood and it Still Retains its Original Polychrome Hand Painted - Decorated Features ( Both Sides - Front and Back.). These type of Donkey Carts are Synonymous with Sicily as they have Been Used for Hundreds of Years. It would Display Beautifully on a Table - Shelf or of Course as a Doorstop.
It is in Very Good Condition Condition Really Does have a Wonderful Authentic Old Look - Patina.
