They were offered as tribute or used for bartering between kings, royal courts and heads of state pre-20th century. The Doris Leslie Blau collection affords the modern purveyor of contemporary hand knotted rugs an opportunity to own high quality rugs of similar pedigree. This Kirman Persian rug features an open field that is awash in abrash earth tones of brown and green. The field background is an earthy, light olive green. The central medallion is a Persian-rug-indicative display of staggered ornate fruit, vase and plant symbols. These symbols and patterns repeat throughout the open field. The guard and main borders, resplendent in palmette and floral designs, is buffered by thinner borders speckled by dots. See less
