From the 1600s to the early 1900s, Indian craftsmen created an immense number of unforgettable carpets and textiles. Whether woven or embroidered, every antique rug originating from India boasts an original style and an elegant countenance that is worthy of a shah or most distinguished British ruler. The antique Indian rug before your eyes, made circa 1930, is a graceful example of the famed Indian artistry.
This antique Indian rug from the second quarter of the 20thcentury has a golden yellow field with Chinese-inspired lotus blossoms and scattered branches between Greek-key corner spandrels within a narrow blue scrolling vinery border. The design of this rug shows how weaving cultures from different parts of the world intertwined and could merge into one work. This Indian rug was carefully knotted by hand out of high-quality wool on traditional looms. Due to such making, it has survived until this day in perfect shape and will undoubtedly serve its owners for generations, under the condition of proper maintenance.
