The main field of this blue Persian rug, made circa 1890, is occupied by an allover botanical grid with palmettes and Herati motifs. This design is enclosed within a series of borders kept in a similar vein, the main of which exhibits further stylized florals, palmettes, and meandering flowering climbers. The color palette features blue, red, and beige.
As befits an antique rug from Persia, this one is distinguished by excellent workmanship. It was carefully knotted by hand out of high-quality wool by a skilled artisan. If maintained properly, the rug will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
