Well-executed and absolutely mesmerizing, this antique Isfahan (Esfahan) rug is truly a paragon of Persian craftsmanship. Both its main field and the border carry botanical patterns featuring stylized acanthus leaves and palmettes which may constitute a reference to the classic oriental motif known as herati, in which a rosette or a palmette is enclosed within a diamond surrounded by four acanthus leaves. This lush thicket is properly balanced thanks to the muted color palette of carmine and navy blue complemented by brighter touches of baby blue, pastel green, orange and beige.
Although made in the 17th century, this Esfahan carpet still maintains its original charm which is strengthen even further by little imperfections like the central abrasion, considered a relish among the connoisseurs of hand-made carpets. Thoroughly hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with centuries-old techniques, the piece will be able to serve its owners many years brining in timeless elegance of the authentic Persian artistry.
