: 1950’s FN6 Cantilever Dining Chair By Mart Stam For Mücke Melder. Founded in the 1920’s in Fryštát, in the Czech republic. Mücke Melder was the leading producer of modernist tubular metal based furniture of the time. The industrial use of tubular metal in furniture came from the modernist designs of the iconic Bauhaus movement and the work of Mucke Melder was heavily inspired by this movement and the designs of Mies van der Rohe, Mart Stam and Marcel Bruer amongst others. Sadly little history is known of the Mucke Melder factory, although many of their armchairs and chairs have fortunately survived. This chair is attributed to Mart Stam although we are not aware of design documentation confirming this. The chairs came direct from a college in Prague and have been well used but are in excellent structural and practical condition. The frames are chromed tubular steel, the seats and backs formed birch laminate. Our workshop has serviced the chairs, cleaning and waxing the frames, we love the fact these have been well used and have much character. The images form an integral part of the product and we cannot photograph every chair. Sets ordered will be matched as best as possible. Seat Height: 44cm Workshop Report: Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
