Antique wardrobe steamer trunk manufactured by W.W. Winship & Sons Company, a respected American trunk maker based in Utica, New York. The original hardware label reads “Extra Quality Baggage – Custom Made Trunks” and identifies production at Faber Factory No. 2.
This trunk is attributed to John William Morey, a prominent Denver businessman and longtime president of the Morey Mercantile Company, a major wholesale firm operating throughout the Rocky Mountain region in the early 20th century. Archival materials related to Mr. Morey and the Morey Mercantile Company are held by History Colorado, supporting the historical context of this attribution.
The trunk retains its original structure, hardware, and interior components, including working latches, intact bottom, and period leather and metal fittings. Exterior surfaces display authentic age-appropriate wear consistent with historic travel use, including original painted striping and patina.
