Iconic “Squiggly Wiggly” coffee table designed by Charles Hollis Jones, a seminal figure in American modern and Hollywood Regency design. Designed and manufactured in the United States and signed and dated 1972, this sculptural table exemplifies Jones’s pioneering use of Lucite as a structural and artistic medium.
The table features a dynamic, sinuous Lucite base composed of two interlocking elements that connect at the center. The base can subtly open or close to better accommodate the proportions of the top, a clever and visually engaging design detail that underscores Jones’s experimental approach. It is currently fitted with a glass top; however, the design would be especially striking when paired with a thicker glass or Lucite top, further enhancing its sculptural presence.
Charles Hollis Jones rose to prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s for redefining acrylic furniture, elevating industrial materials into luxurious, gallery-worthy objects. His work has been widely collected, exhibited, and celebrated for its technical innovation and bold visual language. Jones’s designs were favored by celebrities, interior designers, and collectors, and his influence remains central to American modern and Hollywood Regency aesthetics.
This signed and dated example represents an authentic, vintage work from the height of Jones’s career, offering both historical importance and strong visual impact. A standout piece for collectors of American design, Lucite furniture, and postwar modern classics.
