This distinctive Japanese piece is a finely crafted wooden scale model that reveals the structural framework and roof construction of a traditional building. The open “skeleton” makes the posts, beams and joinery fully visible, giving it the unmistakable didactic quality of study models used in miyadaiku craftsmanship (traditional temple and shrine carpentry) or in architectural education.
Dimensions: height 51 cm, width 67.5 cm, depth 53 cm (dimensions of the glass cover).
with its deep eaves, multiple roof planes and a raised central volume, the design strongly evokes the architecture of a shrine or temple pavilion. The layered rooflines and proportions are precisely what make this model so compelling to study up close.
The presentation is exceptionally refined. The model is mounted on a wooden base finished with gold-toned paper and protected by a glass cover with a matching gold backdrop. The contrast of warm wood against a golden field creates a calm, almost museum-like presence. A unique collector’s object that brings immediate character and narrative to an interior with a strong connection to Japanese tradition and building culture.
Condition: perfect; complete, stable and carefully preserved.
