He conceived not … Read more In 1954, Belgian architect Lucien Engels designed Home Émile Vandervelde II, a children's holiday home in Oostduinkerke. He conceived not only the building but also its furniture, of which only a handful of pieces survived after the complex was demolished in 1995. These Type A chairs are made of solid beech wood with green colored backrests and an asymmetrical handhold. Ingeniously constructed, the seats are secured to the frame with dovetail joints, highlighting the intelligence of Engels' design. We also have two blue and two red chairs available.
Beautifully aged and carrying a fantastic patina, they are a remarkable surviving fragment of Belgium's modernist heritage. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
