This … Read more We present this superb set of eight mid-century dining chairs from the esteemed Italian maker, Gessef Consorzio Sedie Friuli.

This elegant ensemble takes clear inspiration from Gio Ponti’s iconic Superleggera chair for Cassina, embracing the same design principle of employing minimal timber to achieve a remarkably lightweight, yet structurally sound, form. Their delicate silhouette belies a sturdy and fully functional construction.

The set comprises two subtly distinct groups of four chairs, each crafted by Gessef. Upon close inspection, one group is marginally taller, and the three horizontal slats on the chair backs exhibit a slight variation in design. These nuances are, however, virtually imperceptible when the chairs are placed around a table.

In a further charming detail, half of the chairs feature original papercord seats, while the others are woven with seagrass. Both materials share a complementary tone and texture, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.

The chairs boast a characteristically slim mid-century profile and are exceptionally lightweight, easily lifted with a single finger. They are solid at all jointures, though not designed for excessive force; one may sense a slight movement if leaning back or rocking. chair has visible signs of usage on the wowen seat, where a few cords is not attached. It is optional to put gliders/'shoes' underneath to lift them a little, to fit modern days table heights.
