The case features a shaped door profile typical of rococo influence, and rests on cabriole legs with gilt bronze sabots and mounts that lend a refined finishing touch. The top is fitted with a beautifully figured marble slab in warm tones that complement the cabinet’s lively woods.

Behind the fall front and lower double doors are fitted interior compartments designed for writing and correspondence, making the piece both decorative and practical. The marquetry work is particularly attractive, with scrolling floral sprays, birds, and foliage presented over an angled veneer ground — motifs very much in keeping with 18th-century French ornamental vocabulary.
